The idea for Masters International School came first to Gene Foltz, the founder of Grace International School in Chiangmai. An increasing number of Chinese were leaving the mainland and coming to Chiangmai seeking Christian education for their children. Grace was only able to accept a fraction of the students that applied, and many Chinese students were being turned down. The parents of some of them approached Gene and asked him to start a school like Grace for their children. Not long after, Scott Finnamore was meeting with some former colleagues about how a Chinese-focused international school in the southeast Asia region could really help meet the needs of many Chinese Christian families. Scott and Gene met in April 2024 in Chiangmai, and the idea for Masters International School came to life! In March of 2025, a group that included Scott and Gene, along with some of our current board members and school principals, met to seek God's face and make plans for the kind of school MIS was to become. Then in October of 2025, we held our first meeting to describe MIS to potential parents. In January of 2026, the site for the school was identified, and renovations began shortly thereafter. March 21, 2026, was the first Open Day for parents on the campus of MIS. As we prepare for our first year, the history continues to unfold. God is at work, and He is unfolding His plan one step at a time as we seek to keep in step with Him.
